Description:
Dr. Petito provides an in depth discussion of dental radiographic interpretation. He reviews normal anatomical findings seen on periapical and panoramic radiographs with an in-depth discussion of normal anatomy seen on Computerized Tomography (CT) scans. Dr. Petito then focuses on the abnormal by highlighting anomalies, pathologies, and artifacts seen when we employ diagnostic imaging techniques in order to effectively treat our patients. Lastly he provides real life cases with a focus on radiographic interpretation, and how it effects our treatment decisions and outcomes.
Objectives: At the end of the lecture participants will be able to:
• Review and discuss the findings of a periapical or panoramic radiograph
• Review and discuss the findings of a Computerized Tomography (CT) imaging study
• Identify when something is “abnormal” on a radiographic or imaging study
• Understand when to retake a radiograph
• Understand when to recommend another imaging study
• Determine when to refer your patient based on radiographic findings
• Explain what information should be provided with the image when making the referral
Presenter:
Anthony Petito DDS, MD; received his DDS from the University of Maryland and his MD from the University of Connecticut. After completing an internship in General Surgery, he completed his residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and a fellowship in Orthognathic and Reconstructive Jaw Surgery. He is board certified in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Dental Anesthesiology. He holds Fellowship status in The American College of Surgeons and The American College of Dentists. Dr. Petito served as Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at Brown Medical School, and the Chief of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Dentistry at The Miriam Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island. He retired from Hospital practice in 2016, after 18 years. He currently practices office based oral surgery, with emphasis on anesthesia, dental implantology, and oral medicine.
