According to the ADA, “All members of a covered entity’s workforce are required to receive training in the dental practice’s policies and procedures required under HIPAA Privacy, Security, and Breach Notification. Train new workforce members within a reasonable time after they join the workforce. If someone’s job is affected by a change in your HIPAA policies or procedures, provide training on the change within a reasonable time after the change becomes effective. In addition, periodic re-training and training updates can help ensure compliance and reduce the likelihood of a breach”.

This presentation will provide information on HIPAA and the HITECH rules and regulations. Discussion includes HIPAA Privacy and Security Policies.

Ms. Turcotte has presented and published articles on dental related topics in several journals.  She has recently retired as Professor of Dental Hygiene, Tunxis Community College CT after decades of teaching dental assistant and dental hygiene students.  She is the recipient of the prestigious Mabel C. McCarthy award presented by the CT DH Association and the recipient of the ADHA national Teacher of the year award.
