This *interactive on demand webinar covers the many aspects of implant dentistry beginning with nonrestorable teeth and progresses through the steps to dental implants. Patient workup, indications for treatment, and patient restorative options are reviewed. Surgical procedures for all forms of implant dentistry are be highlighted, including adjunctive techniques, surgical options, contraindications, and potential complications. Lastly, Dr Petito reviews the ways we maintain dental implants for our patients, promoting long term dental implant success.

Objectives: At the end of the webinar participants will be able to:

  • Determine when a dental implant may be indicated, and the non-implant options available
  • Discuss dental implant workup including specialized imaging
  • Understand the indications and procedures for socket preservation
  • Review extraction/immediate placement and immediate load options
  • Identify the difference between removable, hybrid, and fixed implant restorations
  • Explain adjunctive procedures such a bone grafting, sinus lifting and nerve repositioning
  • Discuss new techniques and innovations including flapless, CT guided, and vertical lifting
  • Assess the potential complications associated with dental implants
  • Identify in detail maintenance protocols including “dos and don’ts” for long term implant success

Speaker: Anthony Petito received his DDS from the University of Maryland and his MD from the University of Connecticut. After completing an internship in General Surgery, he completed his residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and a fellowship in Orthognathic and Reconstructive Jaw Surgery. He is board certified in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Dental Anesthesiology. He holds Fellowship status in The American College of Surgeons and The American College of Dentists. Dr. Petito served as Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at Brown Medical School, and the Chief of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Dentistry at The Miriam Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island. He retired from Hospital practice in 2016, after 18 years. He currently practices office based oral surgery, with emphasis on anesthesia, dental implantology, and oral medicine.
