This course will assist the dental practitioner with recognizing signs and symptoms of periodontal diseases and diagnosis. The periodontal classification system will be discussed as well as key features of various types of periodontal diseases. Evidence-based treatment recommendations will also be reviewed.

Course Objectives:

  • Discuss risk factors and modifiers of periodontal disease.
  • Discuss the periodontal classification system and gray zones associated with implementation.
  • Discuss the various types of periodontal conditions, microbiology and their treatment.
  • Diagnose periodontal conditions using case studies

Speaker: Professor Leah MacPherson, RDH, BS, MHP
Leah received an AS Degree in Dental Hygiene degree at the University of New England, an Advanced Dental Hygiene Certificate at Forsyth School in Boston and a Master’s degree at Northeastern University. Leah is currently a Professor at Middlesex Community College and is also the recipient of the National Teaching and Leadership Excellence award as well as the Course of Distinction Award for Periodontology. She has experience in general, periodontal, periodontal research, and public health settings.  Leah is an international and national speaker.  She is known as a passionate, relatable and dynamic speaker.
