The course addresses a brief history of lasers in dentistry, overview of wavelengths, their uses and purpose. Dr. Kronick will explain physics and safety for patients, and the dental team. Also, there will be a discussion on the use in all aspects of dentistry with a focus on the dental hygienist role. 

Each state has different regulations governing the use of lasers in dentistry. We caution you to check your state laws and liability. There will be time for Q&A. A quiz and evaluation follow course completion per ADA standards.

Objectives: At the end of the lecture participants will be able to:

1. use of the appropriate laser wavelength to achieve the desired tissue result.  

2. understand the concept of laser-tissue interaction, using the lowest possible setting to achieve the desired tissue response. 

3. develop laser safety proctols for the clinician, auxilary team, patient and clinic setting. 

4. understand basic laser physics.

5. differentiate between ablation and stimulation

6. differentiate between treating hard and soft tissues.

Presenter: Dr. Linda R. Kronick loves being a general dentist since she began her career in 1989.  She practices laser dentistry for the last 14 years.  Dr. Kronick holds a master-ship status in the use of lasers with over 500 CEUs. 

Dr. Kronick is a graduate from Emory University and the UCONN School of Dental Medicine.  She served as a Past Clinical Instructor at Fones School of Dental Hygiene, CT and Past Associate Professor, UCONN, School of Dental Medicine, CT. She is a Fellow of the International Dental Implant Association and has provided pro bono dentistry for the Mission of Mercy and dental care on a mission trip to Stebbins Alaska.

Dr. Kronick has lectured and demonstrated the use of lasers for different manufactures. Among many other things, she is a member of the Women's Community Leadership Initiative,
