 Objectives: 

The participant will:

1. Understand the science behind sharpening Universal Curettes

2. Understand the ramifications of not sharpening correctly

3. Develop mastery of sharpening Universal Curettes

4. Identify how to prevent on the job personal injury

5. Demonstrate how to implement sharpening into your daily practice*

MATERIALS NEEDED: Periodontal Instruments and Sharpening Stone.

Presenter: 
Deborah McGlynn, RDH, BS

Deborah has been a practicing dental hygienist since 1981. She taught first year and second year dental hygiene for 13 years, and she has been a dental hygiene tutor & ergonomics consultant since 2001. She has developed training modules and has been published in RDH magazine. She has led sharpening lectures, workshops, and webinars for ADHA, Oregon and Washington’s Dental Hygiene Associations.  She is a member of ADHA, and WSDHA. Deborah has served on three dental hygiene advisory committees and was the Acting Chair for one of them. She has volunteered for two non-profit organizations in Alaska and Bolivia. Deborah started her own company, DH Cubed, LLC in 2011 with the mission to provide education and tools for dental hygienists to increase skill and efficiency while lowering pain and injury common to the profession. She and her partners have developed The ErgoSharp Sharpening System, (formerly known as The OneTen/The Cube). This system trains the hygienist to perfect their sharpening skills such that they are preventing on the job injury to themselves and are providing the absolute best care to their patients.
